Drones 101 for Teachers is a TQI-accredited program (5 hours) providing educational professionals with insight into Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) as a potential resource and stimulus for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM); Photography, Art & Design (PAD) and Project Based Learning (PBL).
Participants will gain an understanding of the potential provided by RPAS to the classroom as well as how to operate them safely abiding by CASA rules and regulations via an engaging and informative program incorporating fast-paced seminars, interactive activities, videos, gameplay, plus a flying demonstration with introductory skills taught. Download our Drones 101 for Teachers flyer for more information.

Drone Bootcamp can be booked to attend your school to provide a drone-inspired incursion. Our visit will engage and motivate young learners by introducing them to the many and varied drone variants, their uses and future pathways available to students.
We can customise an incursion to integrate with your inquiry-based learning program/s or PBL objectives. Book us for a free visit to demonstrate to staff the benefits of drones as a learning tool, to learn more about our TQI course and/or to discuss our introductory incursions.
K – Year 5 Incursion
Program KILO 5: This is an introductory <2-hour display and demonstration event providing young learners with an introduction to and familiarisation of remotely controlled vehicles and aircraft. This program features two (2) Air Swimmers – a great tool to introduce students to the basics of aerodynamics without them ever thinking they were doing a science class.
Cost: $350 (20 students maximum).
Year 6 – 9 Incursion
Program Sierra 9: This is an introductory <2-hour display and demonstration event providing young learners with an introduction to and familiarisation of remotely controlled vehicles and aircraft. This program provides students and teachers with an opportunity to fly an inexpensive Syma X5UC (indoors if venue available) and the more advanced GPS-capable DJI Phantom 3 (outdoors weather permitting).
Cost: $350 (20 students maximum).
Year 10 – 12 Incursion
Program Tango 12: This is an introductory 2-3 hour display and demonstration event providing senior high school students with an introduction to and familiarisation of remotely controlled vehicles and aircraft. This program provides students and teachers with an opportunity to fly an inexpensive Syma X5UC (indoors if venue available) and the more advanced GPS-capable DJI Phantom 3 (outdoors weather permitting). This program introduces teachers and students to The Dragonfly Project (see below for more info) by getting students to enact a scenario (such as a search and rescue mission using drones).
Cost: $500 (20 students maximum).
Imagine a project where students can unpack true STEM and PAD objectives?
What if there was an ‘out-of-the-box’ project where students could learn about aeronautics, radio-guidance, GPS, optics; assemble a quadcopter from scratch; engineer and 3D-print parts; develop teamwork and management skills; design branding and build a website; apply public affairs and communication skills; source community and corporate sponsorship…? All with the aim of presenting their collaborative efforts at an event that also tests their aircraft’s capabilities and challenges their flying skills!
Welcome to The Dragonfly Project – an authentic, 21st-century PBL activity providing schools with a tangible, industry-focused and engaging program for teachers and students – one that truly integrates a variety of Key Learning Areas (KLA).
